FREMONT, Calif. – Hayward city councilmember Bill Quirk July 25 called for Alameda County residents to raise $2 million for One Laptop Per Child India and provide laptops to 9,000 children in 300 villages in India.
One Laptop Per Child, which launched in India in 2007, has the ambitious goal of providing solar-powered, low-cost laptops to all of India’s 250 million disadvantaged children. Since its inception, the organization has provided laptops to 2,000 children in Maharashtra and Manipur, and hopes to deliver another 400,000 laptops by the end of the year. |
