In addition to the implementation of the decision to give each pupil who passed the SEA Examination a laptop computer, in her recent address to the UN, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar stated: "Fellow leaders, you will be happy to learn that within five years, all secondary school students in my country will have a laptop computer in their school bags, the first set of which is being delivered this year for all students entering secondary school for the first time."
However, there is one aspect of this decision of which I have seen nothing written nor heard discussed by Government spokespersons or others—and that is the adverse effect on the children of having to transport this equipment to and from school. I quote from my article of 2007: |
