Greater Atlanta Christian isn’t fighting students’ inclination to use technology. Rather, it’s embracing it. This year, GAC launched its digital learning environment, an initiative that pairs sixth- through 12th-grade students with two pieces of technology: a MacBook and either an iPod Touch or an iPhone. As a result, things are changing on this private Norcross campus. “It’s a whole different mindset,” said junior high principal Misty Overman, who oversaw the committee that rolled out this blended learning approach. “The teacher used to be the fountain of information. Now they are the molder of how to use the information to compare and contrast and to do all this higher-level thinking.” |
