Laptops replace textbooks at Lakeside Middle School |

Teasia Williams was excited when she and her fellow sixth-graders at Lakeside Middle School heard they'd be issued computer notebooks to use in all of their classes. And even though the 11-year-old's enthusiasm was tempered a bit after she was told downloading Justin Bieber songs was "not school-related," Teasia is still learning more from her computer than she would from her increasingly obsolete textbooks. Lakeside, which is Millville's only public middle school, began implementing its computer program through a federal grant two months ago. All members of the sixth-grade class were issued Dell notebook computers that they bring to every class. The change inside the classroom has been quick, as teachers now plan lessons without textbooks and students take tests through e-mail. |
