No More Text Books? Not Just Yet |

The State Board of Education is encouraging counties to make their schools more technologically friendly. Some schools are already doing so and they say it's for the benefit of the students. The state has put a two year halt on ordering new text books. The money that would be spent on these books, which is approximately $36 million, will be used on technology. The point of this is to get teachers to use technology more frequently because students seem more interested in this type of learning. "You can present them something electronically and you can present them something if you're standing up there talking to them. They're going to tune you out when you're talking to them but you put it in some electronic format and they're going to run with it simply because that's how their brain works," says Elizabeth Parmer, who leads the Lewis County Board of Education Technology Department. |
