Munster parents have good reason to be upset with the School Board and administration over the new policy on laptop computers. The parents got notice in late June -- via a robocall -- of a plan to require parents to pay $250 per year to lease a laptop for each student in grades five through 12. For most parents, this was the first they heard of the idea. Then it became clear that the school district already had purchased the laptops, leaving the parents no option of finding a cheaper alternative. And let's be clear: This is a very expensive obligation for parents. Just weeks before school is to start, parents are told they have to spend an extra $250 per year per child.
