District 200 receives laptop grant |
Posted by: Susan Einhorn |
Woodstock School District 200 has been awarded a $368,160 grant from the state to purchase 445 student laptop computers. The funds will provide each third-, fourth- and fifth-grader at Dean Street Elementary School and Mary Endres Elementary School with a mini-laptop computer to use at school and, eventually, at home. Teachers will receive training on how to integrate the computers into the curriculum and instruct students in their use. The program aims to promote computer literacy among low-income children who might not otherwise have access to a computer. To qualify, at least half of a school’s enrollment must be eligible for free or reduced-cost lunch. Dean and Endres were the only D-200 elementary schools that met the criteria. |
